We believe in lab diamonds: maintaining all the chemical and visual properties of mined diamonds, but sourced above-ground rather than below.
Grown In Surat #
We source the majority of our diamonds from Surat, India: chosen for the region’s craftsmanship and our suppliers comittment to upholding stringent ethical standards.
The diamond industry in Surat, India, began in the 1960s: after decades of Indian artists honing their cutting skills the market significantly shifted, and the city is now known for its thousands of factories, skilled workers and cutting edge technology.
With Antwerp no longer the center of the diamond market, today 90% of the world’s diamonds are cut and polished in Surat – with 800,000 polishers employed in the trade. The city is also swiftly positioning itself as the global hub for lab grown diamonds, with 35% of the world’s volume originating here in 2023.
This was cemented further by the development of the 7.1 square feet Surat Diamond Bourse in 2023, which surpassed The Pentagon as the world’s largest office building, and signifies the city’s commitment to consolidating its position in the global diamond trade.
We source the majority of our diamonds from Surat-based artisans, growers, and cutters: the more ethical choice, these lab grown diamonds are entirely identical to their mined counterparts in terms of their chemical/molecular makeup, as well as being impossible to differentiate – even by expert gemologists.
Are Your Lab Grown Diamonds Legit? #
Lab diamonds are ‘real diamonds’ which are identical in composition and properties to mined diamonds. Not to be confused with cubic zirconia or moissanite, not even an expert qualified gemologist is able to tell a lab-grown diamond apart from their mined counterparts.
All of our diamonds are certified by either the IGI or GIA, and anything above 0.5ct comes with a certificate. Your diamond will be laser inscribed with its authentication number, which corresponds with your certificate.
Where Do Your Lab Grown Diamonds Come From? #
We work with diamond experts in Surat, the diamond capital of the world. Surat processes 90% of the world’s diamonds and employs more than 800,000 polishers.
We work with established Surat craftspeople and artisans who follow stringent ethical standards, and are members of the Surat Jewellery Manufacturer’s Association and the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council. Our specialist diamond consultants and goldsmiths are located in both the UK and the USA.
How Are Lab Grown Diamonds Made? #
Lab grown diamonds are produced using two primary methods: High Pressure-High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD).
HPHT mimics the natural diamond-growing environment within the earth, subjecting diamond ‘seeds’ to high pressure and temperature. CVD involves the deposition of carbon atoms onto a substrate to form a diamond crystal.
Will I Save Money With Lab Grown Diamonds? #
Absolutely! Lab grown diamonds tend to be much more cost-effective than mined diamonds, offering a saving from 20%-70% in comparison.
Neither lab nor mined diamonds hold their value, so they should not be an investment purchase or consideration. That said, we truly believe beautiful diamond jewelry is an investment in yourself or those you love, and we wholeheartedly believe investing in both those things!
Can You Tell The Difference Between Mined and Lab Grown Diamonds? #
The only way you can differentiate lab grown from mined diamonds is with expensive equipment. Diamond detectors – used by jewellers – will read a lab grown diamond as ‘Diamond’. Because that’s what they are!
How Do You Ensure The Quality And Authenticity Of Your Lab Grown Diamonds? #
We work with top manufacturers in Surat, the diamond capital of the world. Each of our lab grown diamonds is certified by either the IGI (International Gemological Institute) or GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and is laser inscribed with its certificate number.
How Ethical Are You? #
We prioritise people in the diamond jewellery making process, something that has historically been neglected within the industry. We focus on compliance with responsible manufacturing standards and support our diamond partners’ ethical labour practices (as well as our own!).
How Sustainable Are Lab Grown Diamonds? #
Lab grown diamonds are a more sustainable alternative to mined diamonds, with significant differences in areas like carbon emissions, water usage, and environmental disruption.
