This collection was designed to do one thing exceptionally well: honor the architecture of the octagon cut – a shape that is often distorted by poor settings, inconsistent symmetry, or design choices that dull its unique identity. We found a vendor who nailed the symmetry, and we jumped at the opportunity. Every design here was built around precision step-cut octagons, which are structurally distinct from traditional emerald or Asscher cuts. We’re offering both loose stones (diamond + moissanite) and five setting options: two rings, one pendant, and one earring style – each one specifically informed by how this cut performs in both materials and how light interacts with its facets.

Why Octagon Cuts Are Special (And Tough to Nail!)

Octagons are tough. They’re step-cut stones, like emeralds or Asschers, but with eight sides instead of four or five – and that means any asymmetry shows up immediately, especially in larger weights. If the corners aren’t even or the sides are just slightly off, the face-up view becomes visually unbalanced. And in prong settings, even minor inconsistencies get amplified.

That’s why every diamond in this collection is IGI certified, with Excellent symmetry, Excellent polish, and Excellent cut grade (where applicable). (The “cut” grade doesn’t technically mean much for fancy shapes, but symmetry and polish absolutely do.)

We’re working with a very specific cutter – a boutique vendor who keeps fewer than 1,000 stones listed across virtual inventories at any given time. He and his team cut for precision over volume, and the level of faceting accuracy they bring to each stone is something rarely seen. These aren’t mass-produced: every stone in this project is being custom-cut from scratch, to spec, just for you.

And that matters – because we’ve put the standards into our contracts: if a stone doesn’t meet our visual benchmarks, even if it technically qualifies on paper, it gets re-cut. No exceptions. This happens before the stone ever reaches you, so you’re never left with something that looks different from what you expected.

Why Diamond vs. Moissanite? (And Why Color Matters)

We’re offering this collection in both lab-grown diamond and non-coated colored moissanite – not colorless, and not coated. Each material behaves differently in this cut, and we chose what makes each one shine:

Lab-grown diamond offers a cleaner, sharper appearance in colorless grades (DEF). Its structure works beautifully with step cuts and keeps edge contrast strong. These stones showcase symmetry exceptionally well, making them the best choice if your priority is that crisp, refined geometry.

Colored moissanite, on the other hand, actually performs better in this shape than colorless moissanite. Step-cut colorless moissanite can often appear flat or glassy – especially under overhead light. But in richer colors (champagne, grey, teal, green, royal blue), the cut comes alive. You get that signature moissanite sparkle through dramatic double refraction, with both internal glow and strong edge play. It’s not quiet, and it’s not meant to be – it’s bold, high-contrast, and unapologetically attention-grabbing.

We’ve also made sure that cutting standards for moissanite match those of our diamonds – down to symmetry, polish, and facet structure. While moissanite isn’t IGI-certifiable, we are still holding our setter to diamond-level precision.
